Healthy and happy livestock make for healthy food and planet

What We Do

Raw Milk

Our primary focus at HSH is producing the tastiest and healthiest raw milk available. Our cows are healthy and have a high quality of life. During the warm months, the cattle are rotationally grazed on grass with access to clean water and minerals. During the winter, our cows have access to the outside 24/7, so they can choose to be in the barn when the wind is blowing or outside when the sun is shining. We have developed a system for producing safe raw milk, which is supported by our on-farm laboratory. We test every milking for harmful bacteria and contaminations. Raw milk is our passion and we love to share it.

Pastured Veal

Our pastured veal is humanely raised. Calves are raised with their mothers and the rest of the herd. They graze on grass and enjoy the sun and fresh air. After they have naturally weaned from their mother (6 to 10 months old) they are processed at an Animal Welfare Approved and USDA inspected facility close to our farm. This is also a more environmentally friendly approach than traditional beef operations because calves are not kept over two winters on stored feed and grain finished. Our cuts of meat are very similar to other beef cuts, but they are smaller and more tender. The meat has a pink/red hue, because Pastured Veal calves have a natural diet of grass and plenty of exercise outside. Our Veal is leaner than traditional beef and high in Omega-3s from the grass they eat. We do not use growth hormones or any unnatural chemicals.

American Milking Devon Cattle

American Milking Devon Cattle are both spectacular and rare. In 1623, Devon cattle were imported to the Plymouth Colony and were the first British cattle brought to the new world. Today’s American Milking Devon cattle are all pure descendants of the original Devon cattle brought to North America. The breed is unique in that it is bred for triple purpose: milk, meat and draft. Milking Devons are hearty animals that thrive on mediocre forage, making them exceptional homestead animals.
